Outreach
Objective
One of the initiatives of the IGC is the promotion of dialogue between scientists and society. To this end, the IGC organises informal sessions and series of conferences between researchers and the general public, with the objective of fostering enthusiasm and knowledge on fundamental matters in modern biomedicine, as well as exploring ways of improving communication channels between scientists, the media, biology secondary school teachers and the general public.
Researchers' Night 2009 - Setting the Stage in Portugal
25 September 2009 is the day that researchers across Portugal take to the stage for Setting The Stage in Portugal an IGC-coordinated project for the 2009 edition of Researchers’ Night, a Europe-wide initiative promoted and funded by the 7th Framework Programme (FP7) of the European Commission.
In four major cities in Portugal, scientists and theatre performers are working together to produce performances of forum theatre, puppetry, physical theatre, stand-up comedy, aimed at breaking down stereotypes of researchers, and creating multiple spaces where scientists and the public may actively engage in the reality of being a scientist, their expectations, and relation with society. A range of interactive activities will complement the performances, including hands-on experiments, ´speed-dating´with scientists, café and bar scientifique, live music and sci-art installations.
Visit the Cientistas ao Palco website for more information and, if you are a researcher, sign up for the activities!
